Mary, called Magdalene by Margaret George good books, fiction books, best books, book review There, on the cover, you see the famous painting entitled, St. Mary Magdalene Approaching the Sepulchre by Giovanni Girolamo Savoldo (c) which I’ve seen on a couple of books regarding the subject: most notably this one and a 2nd non. Luke 8 New International Version (NIV) The Parable of the Sower. 8 After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, 2 and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; 3 Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod.

In which Matt reviews a Margaret George's novel about Mary Magdalene. Next book: Angels and Demons, by Dan Brown Other Book Reviewers: Merry: Margaret George is the New York Times bestselling author of eight novels of biographical historical fiction, including The Splendor Before the Dark, The Confessions of Young Nero; Elizabeth I; Helen of Troy; Mary, Called Magdalene; The Memoirs of Cleopatra; Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles; and The Autobiography of Henry also has coauthored a children’s book, Lucille Lost/5(5). The book's depiction of Jesus's travels throughout the region-with Mary and his disciples at his side-will be familiar to those acquainted with the gospels of the New Testament. Just as in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, the Jesus of Mary, Called Magdalene performs miracles such as curing blindness, lameness, and leprosy.

In a vivid re-creation of Mary Magdalene's life story, Margaret George convincingly captures this renowned woman's voice as she moves from girlhood to womanhood, becomes part of the circle of disciples, and comes to grips with the divine. While grounded in biblical scholarship and secular research, Mary, Called Magdalene ultimately transcends. Mary Called Magdalene is below the standards of her other works however - usually solid 8 out of 10, or at least a 7 - for other reasons. There are odd pacing issues which make sections of the book feel completely out of sync with their actual length, and which shift the focus onto the wrong parts of the story, to the book's detriment I feel/5(). Pope Gregory I (d. ) gave legs to this misinterpretation by delivering a sermon that equated both Mary of Bethany and the anonymous hair-washing sinner woman (Luke ) with Mary Magdalene. This portrait also absorbed the story of the unnamed woman caught in adultery (John ), the combination making the popular image of Mary.

The ancient site of Magdala was excavated in the s but in the passing years had become overgrown again, and it was never part of the tourist track.Mary Magdalene has been represented in many different ways throughout history, especially during the Baroque and Renaissance periods.

Painted by French Baroque painter Georges de La Tour Magdalen.Margaret Ebook book, Mary Called Magdalene is a insiteful look into Ebook at the time of Jesus. The work is mysterious, haunting delightful and sometimes troubling, but the most intriguing part for me was the careful research and depiction of daily life.

As a modern, Western reader of the Bible it is all too easy to project my ideals /5().
